Submissions Now Open
To be considered for publication, fiction manuscripts should be between 50,000 and 125,000 words. We are only looking to publish novel-length work that can stand alone or be part of a greater series. Nonfiction length will be considered per book. What we are NOT accepting at this time are novellas, short story collections, poetry, plays, graphic novels, or previously published works.
Individual Short stories, poetry pieces, and art not part of an Angry Eagle Anthology Project should be submitted to the Wordpeddler Magazine. Please see the information below for all other submission guidelines.
Is your work a fit for us? What are the expected word counts per genre?
Consider reading this blog from Reedsy that speaks of what is considered a novel-length work.

What do we look for?
What genres are we seeking?
At Angry Eagle Publishing, we’re open to all genre fiction, with a focus on Science Fiction, Fantasy, Action, Romance & Thriller. The sub-genre you write in can be varied. Anything from Hard Sci-fi, Post-Apocalyptic, Dystopian, Christian, Epic Fantasy, Romantasy, Space opera, LitRPG, Military SF, Alt/History, Time Travel and more, our main concern is in the story. We also accept young adult, middle grade, and nonfiction works.
Currently we are referring Horror works to High Manor Press
What do we look for in a story?
We look for compelling narratives with character-driven, well-written, and engaging works. We want to be dragged into your work and invested in your three-dimensional and flawed characters and a conflict that keeps us turning the pages. We want to see an engaging plot, but more than that, we want relatable characters who transform as the story does.
It is said that there are really only seven unique story plots, but can you imagine an engaging spin? A twist? Something unexpected or fulfilling to the reader?
What kind of story aspects do we look for?
Author voices vary widely, and all we look for is strong voice in your writing. First or third person point of view matters not as long as it is consistent and draws the reader in.
We also seek good pacing. Your story should have a pacing that keeps the reader engaged. Be neither rushed nor drag on with excessive exposition.
With many fantasy and sci-fi stories, world-building is crucial. We want to see transformative and interesting worlds that are not bogged down and allow the world to emerge as the story unfolds. Info dumps on the world and how it operates are not something we hope to see.
Strong characterization with relatable characters that are not perfect, but perfectly flawed. Characters that evoke emotion and are not flat or simply a plot device to move the story forward.
What languages do we publish in?
English.
We publish worldwide but only in English. We do not offer translation at this time.
Should an author have their book edited or will Angry Eagle edit the books?
Does an author hope to have their books published? Submitting a manuscript rife with errors is the fastest way to be rejected. Please don't type "The End" and send off the rough draft. Books should be the best an author can make them. Find some beta readers to give you feedback, and feel free to have an editor double-check your grammar.
All books go through the Angry Eagle Publishing editing process, but we will not accept added work for our editorial staff that is a head-hopping, tense-shifting, grammatical hot mess. Please submit clean works.
Is there a fee to publish with Angry Eagle?
NO... Never!
We do have expectations for the authors, but to pay us is not one of them. All editorial, formatting, and cover design is free to the author. Angry Eagle shoulders 100% of the financial burden for these things.
**Note: Angry Eagle does have a self-publishing services portal. This is not to be mistaken as fees charged Angry Eagle Authors. This is a service provided to our staff as contractors and authors who wish to DIY but don't know how.
Is there a formatting guideline?
We adhere to the SHUNN formatting method. That information can be found here: Classic Manuscript Format | William Shunn.
Manuscripts that are oddly formatted, with all bold, all caps, all italics, strange fonts, and varied sizes will immediately be rejected without further reading. Being a professional author means submitting professionally polished and formatted works.
Angry Eagle policy on AI
Angry Eagle Publishing acknowledges that Artificial Intelligence is here, and it is not going anywhere. With this acknowledgment, we do not attempt to try and circumvent it or discriminate, however, we prefer human-written works. If your work can be identified as AI-generated, there is a high probability it will not be accepted.
We encourage the use of AI-assisted author helps like grammar checkers and even plotting helps, but we do not wish to engage with AI-generated content.
What is the difference?
AI-assisted writing consists of grammar checkers like Grammarly and Prowritingaid. It may include sentence, paragraph, chapter, or book level evaluations for style, such as Autocrit or Marlowe, where the AI reads your work and offers assistance with passive writing, repetitive words, and other issues a book may find.
AI-generated means you used ChatGPT or some other program to write the words for you.
We do not ask you anything other than if it is AI-generated and ask that you acknowledge this in your contract.

What is expected of Angry Eagle Authors?
What will the author have to do to bring the book to publication?
Authors are expected to participate in the editorial and cover design process. Authors should understand that while their books are precious to them, Angry Eagle staff are professionals in their field and understand what is needed to best showcase the books.
We will never change your story, authors are given full editorial and design consideration. If there is an impasse where the author cannot agree and come together with these elements, they will be released from their contract without any kind of repercussions. We do want authors to be happy with the work done on their books.
What is the author expected to do when it is published?
One of the biggest misconceptions about the world of publishing, especially indie publishing, is that authors get to write while publishers sell their books. While AEP will work very hard to market your book, the true success of any book comes from the author’s willingness to put themselves and their work into the marketplace and their efforts to market the title. This can include media contacts you may already have, a fan base you have already collected, book events you plan to attend, signings at bookstores, etc.
Authors need to understand Angry Eagle is a small press publisher; and as such, in exchange for some of the highest author royalty shares in the industry, we do expect you to help sell your book. YOU are your book's best chance, and if you are unwilling to invest in its success why should we?
The advertising budget for each book is established by its sales. Angry Eagle uses all of its resources to establish a baseline for this and invests back into the book a percentage of those sales. If an author chooses not to participate in the book's success, they should understand that any percentage of 0 is always 0.
But I am new to all of this and do not have a platform. Does this mean I won't be accepted?
No. We accept debut novels all the time and many of our long time authors were once debut authors.
Please ask us about author platform-building assistance programs if you need help, as this is crucial to your book’s success. All Angry Eagle authors are offered platform-building advice and assistance as part of their publishing journey to further their book’s reach.
If AEP accepts your work, you will be expected to provide a marketing plan for your work. The marketing plan you send is very important! Don't have one? Don't let it stop you from querying. We can help. Our designers offer book mockups, graphics and even web design help as part of your journey.
- Note – RESPONSE TIME
The response time to your query letter can be up to 90 days, depending on how busy our staff is. If you have not heard from us by then, you can email admin@angryeaglepublishing.com, but please allow us time to evaluate the submissions.
*Terms and Conditions: Neither your work nor your details will be shared with any third party without your explicit consent.
